This painting celebrates the technical advances that bring hope to those who suffer from neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. Neurons at the bottom of the painting are in a degenerated state of few dendrites, tangled extracellular spaces, and overall impaired health. Tracing the neurons upward represents the interventions of the tireless caregivers, patients, scientists, physicians, and volunteers doing their best to reverse the course of these devastating neurodegenerative diseases. Blackened, damaged neurons sprout anew into gilded branches that reach into the sky, flowering new synaptic growth and regeneration of brain functionality which was lost.
